Yupo is waterproof, tree-free synthetic paper made from polypropylene pellets.  The thickness reminds me of good photo paper.  It's super smooth and durable, waterproof and will not tear.  It holds ink well.  It will not deteriorate yet is 100% recyclable.

Alcohol ink can fade over time. Some colors are more prone than others even like professional artists colors.  To protect the art I have put on a UV polymer varnish and I recommend keeping the art behind glass and keeping out of the sun.  They have UV shields that are quite inexpensive and helpful that you stick on the glass.  They can be found HERE.

SOLD! ~ Red Flower 3

Another red flower!  Boy people sure do love these flowers!  I have to make some more flowers!  Actually they are fun!  Natural flowers are cool anyway! But making them up is more fun :)

SOLD ~ Blue Veil ~ The Veiled Series

I found these online. GAM UV shield

But on to the art!  I keep experimenting and I love it!

Can you tell I am having fun?  I AM!  I had to do some heavy duty research to find out how to protect this new art interest of mine.  All pigments and dyes are subject to fading when exposed to UV rays and especially it seems the hot magenta's and red!  My favorites.  So along with spraying with a UV varnish you can also frame behind class covered with a UV shield!  Nice to know!

SOLD ~ Green Abstract ~ The Veiled Series

Hey ho!  I've been rolling right along with these little ink paintings and gaining more confidence to go bigger.  I've got some big pieces of yup that I think I will make some 11 x 14's out of eventually!

The only problem with being so prolific is the work it takes to get them all up on the various places on the interwebz!

I am also becoming proficient at Photoshop! I just have to remember if I am doing them at night I need to remember I have my monitor dimmer on!  f.lux!  Try it, it helps get you ready for bed and is customizable!

I decided to start breaking these up into series because I am SO running out of names!  And they seem to fall neatly into categories!

So this is one of The Veiled Series.  I will just start numbering them!

I tried, I mean I really tried to be conservative in my painting and color and website but THAT IS NOT ME!  I get excited about color and I jump up and down at new combinations which lead to other new combinations!

So... I am having FUN!

Living Leak

Most of the time I will have a name running through my mind while I am painting and that is how I name my paintings.  This one really reminded me of the sea and little bubbles coming from the fish that hide in the underwater vegetation.  I love it's brightness!

I've been experimenting with the inks more and I love the outcomes!  At first it was very hard to want to sell these but I then realized I love the next one, then the next one, then the next one!  A never ending joy fest of painting!  It's been a long time for that passion in me to rise again!

Wild luscious uncontrollable color.... YES!!!!

A New Fun Medium!

A couple years ago, for about 4 years I had a business silk painting.  I did a lot of scarves that looked like this.  The dyes where wild and transparent and luminous and so beautiful.  Well the economic downturn came along and we couldn't keep the business going.  I missed the look of the dyes as I went toward painting.

Recently I've some artist friends who've started to work with alcohol inks. I finally was able to get with them and find out how to use them last night and WOW we had a blast!  The inks reminded me of the dyes and their properties!  It's like coming home in a way!

Here are my first two on yupo paper.

I've had so much fun doing these that I might teach it!  I have all kinds of ideas running through my head now!  It was so much fun!

If you are in the Findlay Ohio area look up Inks and Drinks for a fun night learning this medium!
